It says on the back of the package - 3 AAA batteries, but don't use rechargeable batteries. Are they just saying this or is it true that using rechargeable batteries in it will mess it up?

My teacher gave me a really hard sudoku puzzle to do and I'm having trouble with it. Is there a site where I can plug the numbers in and it will solve it for me? Help is MUCH appreciated. It's extra credit, so please don't feel bad helping me :D.
